The reverse coin design was created in collaboration with Boneta-Marie Mabo, award-winning contemporary artist and grand-daughter of Eddie Mabo, and features Eddie Mabo as representative of the plaintiffs from the High Court case, the Torres Strait Islander and Australian Aboriginal flags, and iconic pamphlets from the 1967 referendum surrounded by "1992 MABO - 25 YEARS" above; "1967 REFERENDUM - 50 YEARS" below. The face value (50) is to the left of Mabo's portrait.
