The coin’s reverse portrays on the right, a bust of Dame Nellie Melba, an Australian operatic lyric coloratura soprano, the most famous singers of the late Victorian era, and the first Australian to achieve international recognition as a classical musician, at the left the Stage curtain side adorned with her name. Left of the image, the denomination and the face value "5 DOLLARS" and the designer's monogram (VG) is below right, on her neck.
