A representation of King John's great seal The (obverse) seal contains an image of the monarch enthroned (John), encircled with the style of the monarch "IOHANNES DEI GRACIA REX ANGLIE ET DOMINVS HIBERNIE / IOH[ANNE]S DVX NORMANNIE ET AQUITANIE COMES ANDEGAVIE", in Latin meaning "John, by the grace of God, King of England and Lord of Ireland / John, Duke of Normandy and of Aquitaine, Count of Anjou", which formalized the original 1215 Magna Carta also appears in the design.
