Description:
The reverse of the Eight shaped coin features two koi fish swimming against the currents and a lotus flower. Combining symbols of luck, prosperity, ambition and wealth, this innovative coin is a fitting tribute to Chinese culture and traditions. Thanks to their ability to swim upstream, koi fish have long represented perseverance and strength of purpose in eastern cultures. As such they have become a symbol of good luck, abundance, courage, independence and ambition. The number eight is also considered extremely lucky as the Chinese word for ‘eight’ sounds similar to ‘good fortune’ or ‘money’. The Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark below and the designer's initials "IJ" in tiny letters left.
