Description:
The obverse of the coin depicts a compass rose with the cardinal points. 6th crowned portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II facing right (the Commonwealth effigy), wearing the George IV State Diadem, the Coronation Necklace and Earrings. encircled by the inscriptions "QUEEN ELIZABETH II" - the name of the Queen, "AUSTRALIA" - the issuing country, "2 DOLLARS" - the face value and "2019" - the issue year and "2 OZ 9999 Ag" - the weight of the coin and the purity of the Silver. Below the effigy, the transparent locket with garnets is also visible on this side and features a rotating ship’s wheel.

Description:
The wide reverse circle of the coin depicts the scientific breakthroughs and discoveries associated with James Cook's first voyage of exploration, alongside an image of HMS Endeavour and a portrait of the famous seafarer. The individual circular motifs are arranged around a central inset formed by a rotating ship's rudder. A three-masted sailing ship motif is placed at the top of the coin. A ribbon with the name of the ship 'ENDEAVOR' and the anniversary years '1770 - 2020' runs around the edge of the image. Other motifs refer to the successful observation of the passage of Venus across the solar disk, navigational instruments, the discovery of the plant species Banksia named for naturalist and voyage participant Joseph Banks, cartographic mapping devices, and the personality of Captain James Cook. The background covers the continents mapped during the voyage. The design also includes the mintmark 'P' from the Perth Mint at the left side and the designer's initials (LB) are also incorporated into the design below left.
