The obverse presents the crowned coat of arms of the Kingdom of Lesotho, featuring a koena (crocodile) on a Basotho shield. This is the symbol of the dynasty of Lesotho's largest ethnicity, the Bakoena. Behind the shield there are two crossed weapons, an assegai (lance) and a knobkierie (club). To the left and right of the shield are supporters of the shield, two Basotho horses. In the foreground there is a ribbon with the national motto of Lesotho: Khotso, Pula, Nala (Sesotho, to English: Peace, Rain, Prosperity), complete with date below. The country name around above.

In the harsh winter, amid the immense hardships faced by the Continental Army at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, Washington is depicted kneeling in a moment of solitary prayer, seeking guidance and strength from God against the woods in the background. Birth and issue years frame the portrait accompanied by his name curves above, and inscription of the event "VALLEY FORGE" curves below completing the design with clean minimalist composition.
