ZUYTDORP
1 oz .999 Ag

Description:
On the reverse of coin depicts the Zuytdorp in full sale on calm seas. The ship is surrounded with regal, maritime ornaments common to the period comprising elements from artwork by Adriaan de Jong: on top, the logo of the Dutch East India Company logo, below left a male figure holding a representation of the Coat of Arms of the village of Zuiddorpe in the Netherlands, and below right a female figure holding a representation of the Coat of Arms of the province of Zeeland in the Netherlands, with ribbons, flowers and fruit on left and right. The date of the shipwreck “1712,” the name of the ship “ZUYTDORP,” and the coin’s weight, purity, and metal content are all upside down. When flip the coin to view these elements upright, this puts the design of the Vergulde Draeck itself in the position it ultimately came to rest: capsized. The designer's initials (AB) below right.
