ZEEWIJK
1 oz. 999 Ag

Description:
In the new reverse design of the coin, the pristine image of the original Zeewijk frame as it sails along smooth waters. The Zeewijk was known as an East Indiaman, a general term used to refer to the Dutch East India Company. The ship is surrounded with regal, maritime ornaments common the logo of the Dutch East India Company logo on top, marine ropes to the sides, a ship's steering wheel in the lower left and a compass in the lower right. The date of the shipwreck “1727,” the name of the ship “ZEEVIJK,” and the coin’s weight, purity, and metal content are all upside down. When flip the coin to view these elements upright, this puts the design of the Vergulde Draeck itself in the position it ultimately came to rest: capsized. The designer's initials (AS) are in the lower right, hidden in the ornamentation to the left of the compass.
