The reverse design depicts the columns and main entry of the Melbourne Mint building in the center with the reverse of first two coins released from the mint after it opened in 1872. They are the St. George on the right and Shield on the left Gold Sovereign Victoria Young Head Crowned. The sovereign cameos are struck from 24 carat gold and are inserted into the coin.
