The reverse of the coin depicts the Dog, a symbol of loyalty, friendship, and protection, features a finely detailed image of a chocolate-colored Labrador retriever standing on a rocky cliff with looking alert, a textured coat, and faithful, in the background a stylized pine tree, along with the Chinese character (狗) for "Dog" above the dog, the inscription “Year of the Dog” is placed along the rim, and the Perth Mint “P” mintmark is also inscribed on the left of the coin. The designer's initials (IJ) below left, next to right foreleg.
