The reverse shows the lizard in a defensive stance with its frill fully spread, standing on the ground among blades of grass. The engraving captures the alert posture and characteristic appearance of this species, closely connected with the Australian outback. The inscription identifies the theme "DISCOVER AUSTRALIA" curves along the upper edge and its name accompanied by weight, purity, and metal content "FRILLED NECK LIZARD 1/25 OZ 9999 GOLD" are inscribed close to the bottom rim. In the right field, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark appears and the designer's initials (SB) are also incorporated into the design opposite it , below the lizard's tail.
