On the reverse, a duck-billed platypus is shown on the rocky shore and drinking among blades of grass and a stylized waves that emphasize the animal’s movement and aquatic environment, viewed from above and slightly behind, its broad tail and webbed feet. Fine incuse lines pick out the fur across the body, and the animal’s dark bill and eye are rendered in polished contrast. Engravings on this face identify the name of the series "PRIDE OF AUSTRALIA" around above, the face value in letters "TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS" inscribed close to the bottom rim. The designer's initials (HH) are also incorporated into the design below right in the rock to the right of the animal.
