The coin features a design of Captain Arthur Phillip in his captain’s uniform (Engraved by Henry Macbeth-Raeburn after a 1786 oil painting by Francis Wheatley), stepping ashore at Sydney Cove (a small bay on the southern shore of Port Jackson) in 1788 where now stands the city of Sydney with HMS Sirius, a 10-gun sloop-of-war of the Royal Navy in the background. An inscription "SYDNEY COVE" to the left and date of landing at the opposite. Lettering "ARTHUR PHILLIP" around above, the face value "TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS" around below and the designer's initials (HH) are also incorporated into the design.
