The platypus is shown as it gracefully glides underwater surrounded by swirling currents and bubbles that emphasize the animal’s movement and aquatic environment. The platypus is rendered in fine detail, highlighting its distinctive bill, webbed feet. The inscription identifies the theme "DISCOVER AUSTRALIA" curves along the upper edge and its name accompanied by weight, purity, and metal content "PLATYPUS 1/10 OZ 9999 GOLD" are inscribed close to the bottom rim. In the left field, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark appears and the designer's initials (RV) are also incorporated into the design, on the stones.
