The reverse presents Victoria of Magellan or Nao Victoria (Spanish for "Victory") underway at sea in an exceptionally detailed maritime composition. The vessel is shown from the front with its imposing wooden hull, high stern and distinctive projecting figurehead. Above rise three towering masts with yards, extensive rigging, ropes and multiple billowing square sails, while sculpted waves beneath the hull create a dramatic sense of movement against the compass rose at the upper left, surrounded by a map grid and navigational details in the background. A ribbon inscription reads “Santa Maria,” and an inset medallion features Sea nautical navigation instruments "sextant, , divider, sailor compass, metal spyglass" all within a circle surrounded by the text identifying the series "African Ounce" left while the metal, weight and purity accompanied by the date "2017 1oz FINE GOLD 999" along the right edge.
