The coin’s reverse design depicts the largest known lump of gold ever found with its name accompanied by the discovery date "WELCOME STRANGER 1869" (discovered on 5 February in 1869 by John Deason and Richard Oates. The mining occurred in the area of a small town - Moliagul, Victoria), below it surrounded by a starburst background (stylized rays of sunlight not quite reaching the center). Above the image, the words “THE AUSTRALIAN NUGGET 1 OZ. 9999 GOLD” curve around the top edge, while below the design, the year “2021.” The layout is clean and the engraving crisp, highlighting the artistic capabilities of the Perth Mint’s master engravers. The P mint mark of the Perth Mint is above the date. 35 above the nugget "35th anniversary of the Australian Gold Nugget series of coins".
