THE AUSTRALIAN NUGGET 1 OZ. 9999 GOLD 2005
Australian Prospector Series
P SA
Description:
The reverse features a representation of depiction of the largest known lump of gold ever found (discovered on 5 February in 1869 by John Deason and Richard Oates. The mining occurred in the area of a small town - Moliagul, Victoria), surrounded by a starburst background (stylized rays of sunlight not quite reaching the center) on the central circle surrounded by the senses of prospectors during the gold rush in areas such as Bendigo in Victoria and Kalgoorlie in Western Australia to house thousands of hopeful prospectors set against colored background. Above the image, the words “THE AUSTRALIAN NUGGET 1 OZ. 9999 GOLD” curve around the top edge, while below the design, the year “2005.” The layout is clean and the engraving crisp, highlighting the artistic capabilities of the Perth Mint’s master engravers. In the left field, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark appears and the designer's initials (SA) in tiny letters at the opposite side.
