The suspender bar is engraved on both sides with the words "FOR GALLANTRY"). The denomination numeral 20 also appears at the upper left below ribbon, with the date and an inscription identifying the theme, Medal for Gallantry around, surrounded by a wattle wreath with the Crown of St Edward below.
