The BATTLE of NUI LE
Description:
The reverse of the coin shows a representation of the Battle of Núi Lé (Nui Le), and depicts Australian soldiers carrying a body on a stretcher into a helicopter (a Bell UH-1 Iroquois, also known as a “Huey”), with another soldier kneeling and aiming a rifle on the right. In the background, bamboo on the left and artillery explosions on the right. Above, a McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II aircraft. The designer's logo, a stylized A over B is below right, in front of the kneeling soldier. Two lines, one vertical and one horizontal, meet below right in the manner of a sniper's "cross hairs". Vertically above right, next to the vertical line, YS 513857, which is the map grid reference to the site of the Battle of Núi Lé. Above left, the value 50. On two lines below, the inscription The BATTLE of NUI LE.
