The coin’s reverse depicts a finely detailed of a pair of Thylacoleo — the largest marsupial carnivore of its time. It climbed trees with semi-opposable thumbs and caught its prey using large claws and massive shearing teeth set against a vivid colored background of the delicate rainbow indicating the dawn of a new day. A plump and fluffy cub peers curiously over the back of its long-tailed mother as she climbs a dark-brown branch. The inscription "THYLACOLEO" around above, the coin’s metal, weight and purity"1oz 999 Silver," around below. In the right field, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark appears and the the designer's initials (PT) are also incorporated into the design on the Thylacoleo's right hind leg.
