The reverse features a representation of depiction of the Ruby Well ("a 146-ounce gold specimen unearthed in 1913 by prospector M.J. Murphy at the Ruby Well goldfields, located approximately 45 kilometers (28 miles) south of Peak Hill in Western Australia) with its name and year of discover "RUBY WELL 1913" below it surrounded by a starburst background (stylized rays of sunlight not quite reaching the center). Above the image, the words “THE AUSTRALIAN NUGGET 1/4 OZ. 9999 GOLD” curve around the top edge, while below the design, the year “1990.” The layout is clean and the engraving crisp, highlighting the artistic capabilities of the Perth Mint’s master engravers. The special P200 mint mark of the Perth Mint marking the Australian Bicentenary (200 years of European settlement on the continent) is above the date.
