The reverse depicts at its center a forward-facing naval vessel at sail and cutting through the sea with its guns raised, ready to strike. Behind the battleship are two national symbols: on the left,, the "southern cross," a constellation of stars representing Australia, which also appears on the Australian flag; and on the right, the "stars and stripes," representing the United States. Symbolizing the decisive carrier battle fought in the Pacific in 1942. Below left, the P mint mark of the Perth Mint. Below the waterline on the right, the initials of the designer (WR). Around the rim, the inscription BATTLE OF THE CORAL SEA above, and WAR IN THE PACIFIC 1941-45 below.
